2009-2010 Studio Players Season

The Unexpected Guest by Agatha Christie
September 10-27, 2009
Directed by Gary McCormick

A thriller as well as a puzzler set in a foggy estate in Wales, this mystery opens as a stranger walks into a house to find a man murdered and his wife standing over him with a gun. But the woman is dazed and her confession unconvincing. The stranger helps her concoct a story that blames the murder on an intruder. But once the police begin investigating, they discover clues that point to a man who died two years previously, opening a Pandora's box of loves and hates, and suspicions and intrigues.

Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol by Tom Mula
November 19-December 6, 2009
Directed by Carly Preston

"Scrooge? I have to redeem old Scrooge? The one man I knew who was worse than I was? Impossible!" So begins the real story behind Dicken's A Christmas Carol - the story of Jacob Marley's heroic behind-the-scenes efforts to save old Scrooge's soul (and in the process, save his own). This irreverent, funny and ultimately, deeply moving story retells Dicken's classic with warmth and infectious zest.

True West by Sam Shepard
January 21-February 7, 2010
Directed by Eric Ryan Seale

This American classic explores the alternatives that might spring from the demented terrain of the California landscape. Sons of a desert dwelling alcoholic and a suburban wanderer clash over a film script. Austin is a stable, successful Hollywood screenwriter. Lee is his menacing, vagabond brother. The story of their tragicomic quest to change identities is funny and terrifying, realistic and surrealistic, and ultimately mesmerizing. (Mature language)

Wait Until Dark by Frederick Knott

Directed by Bob Singleton

Suzy Hendrix, a blind housewife, becomes the target of a sinister con-man and two ex-convicts seraching for a mysterious doll they have traced to the Greenwich Village apartment of Suzy and her husband Sam. Through a cleverly constructed deception, the three men try to convince Suzy to reveal the location of the doll. As Suzy becomes suspicious of their motives, the stakes are raised and she realizes the only way to play fair is to play by her rules. Set in the late 60's, this tense thriller was made into a movie starring Alan Arkin and Audrey Hepburn.
