On March 1, 2002, the Embry-Lowenthal Building was reopened as the newly renovated Downtown Arts Center (DAC). The DAC is owned by the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government and managed by LexArts. The DAC subleases office space and is available for per-use rental by LexArts member groups, nonprofit organizations and private groups and individuals.
The DAC is home to the following:
- LexArts
- Black Box Theater
- Stoll Keenon Ogden City Gallery
- The Ann Tower Gallery
The first floor of the DAC houses LexArts' box office, the black box theater, Alfalfa's Restaurant and the lower level of the Ann Tower Gallery. The theater is a 250-seat contemporary black box with flexible seating. It is equipped with state of the art lighting and sound capabilities. Users of the theater are also provided with access to two dressing rooms, a green room, a backstage area and loading dock.
The second floor of the facility includes the Stoll Keenon Ogden (SKO) City Gallery, rehearsal room and DAC administrative offices. The SKO City Gallery is a unique U-shaped room and is available for meetings, exhibits and lectures. The rehearsal room is primarily used for rehearsals in conjunction with the black box theater performance space and also doubles as an alternative performance space. The second level of the Ann Tower Gallery is also housed on the second floor.
If you are interested in renting any of the spaces described above for special events, please call Kathy Newsome, Sepcial Events Coordinator, at 859.361.1343 or via e-mail at knewsome@lexarts.org.
